Rutland gasket finally on. Egg sleeping inside tonight.

It was finally warm enough and I had a little bit of time to give it a try. I got a later start than planned and It was 60 out when I started but, temps will drop below 30 tonight so I brought her in. Didn't want to bring it in at first because I thought the permatex would stink. After letting dry outside for an hour I can't smell a thing and it still doesn't smell inside. Been dying to put on a new gasket couldn't wait any longer. Hoping it will help maintain temps on my low and slows. My old gasket was fried, smoke would leak out around the entire egg when dampered down with lots of wood chunks. Not sure I did everything right but I followed the directions as best as I could. Wish there was a video on how to do this. I'm thinking about making a simple  one when I do my other egg. Would anyone find that helpful or are the pics and instructions enough? Also you leave the lid on the entire 24 hours right? I had parchment paper under there for the first few hours but just took it off after inspecting. Tried to do this without taking off the lid which I know a few have done. It would have been too difficult to do it without removing in my opinion.

Kudos! Well done.    Pics after you get her re-banded?

I did mine with no instructions or video though I guess some would find it helpful. All I had was what I read here. I did not remove the dome. Most of us install Rutlands on the bottom only. Easy install and seals fine. I did mine in nov or dec five years ago so I wheeled mine inside too.

Lots of guys have been egging for years with no gasket. They seem content. I like one just for the cushioning when closing the dome. Probably shuts down quicker too.

I see you used ultra copper so you should be good for a LONG time! By the way, the orange eventually goes away. :)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

  • Oh forgot to thank @RRP. I was going to just buy it on amazon prime because I order everything on there and it's the right length on Amazon for a large egg and pretty much the same price too. But, thought I'd support the little guy. As it turns out Ron was just as quick as Amazon and it was piece of mind knowing I was getting the right thing.
  • @Carolina Q no gasket?? That's pretty much what I had before I  installed the new one. I'm really hoping to see a little improvement in temp control as many have said they have seen after installing new gaskets. I'm hoping it's not just a cushioning for closing I was dreaming about performance improvement?

If you installed according to my instructions which you say you did then you should see an improvement - besides not having another gasket replacement issue for years from now! BTW the manufacturer of Permatex says the 24 hours is needed as the material has a chemical cure, not a heat cure and in fact introducing external heat will not make it cure any faster!.
