Just put on a 8# bone in butt
First butt cook, didn't realize this was a 2 hour per pound cook when I bought it. Just put it on at 1030. Digiq set at 245, midnight meal.

You have quite a temperature band with cooking a butt. Many espouse the turbo method (around 300-350*F on the dome) til the bone pulls clean. I think that gets you in the 6-7 hour cook range. Others go low&slow (around your temp) til about 160*F the dial it up to the 300+ to finish. Others ride the low&slow all the way.
About the only thing that could be impacted by the higher cook temps is the amount of sugar in your rub as it can burn and degrade your bark. Hit the search function above for more specifics but you have a lot of latitude with the butt cook. Enjoy.Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -

I turbo butts exclusively. Exactly what @lousubcap said. Between 300 and 350 dome till it pulls. I did some last weekend that took just less than 1 hr per pound.

Getting there she's at 197 also cast iron full of sliced potatoes with cheese, cream cheese, onions, and shrooms. I used bacon grease to lube them up and they are in the oven at 425. I got Romas and fresh mozza for a caprese salad. It's my anniversary dinner
