Question about BGE XL table build tomorrow
tbramse
Posts: 31
Gonna be building my first BGE table tomorrow for my XL. Keeping things relatively simple but wanted to get some confirmation on a few measurements.
What is the ideal height to have the egg above the top of the table? I want to make sure my shelf is the right height and want to make sure I have enough of the egg coming through the table.
Also, what is the right circumference for the hole given the appropriate height?
Complete amateur when it comes to wood working and didn't really like the Yellawood BGE plans. Wanted to get the forum's help.
Happy egging everyone.

Do you have an XL table nest? Pic off web

This should get you headed in the right direction. Straight from the mothership. http://www.biggreenegg.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/BGE-TP-XL.pdf

And make sure you get a nest! You need a air gap under the egg

That's a real good post by @DoubleEgger notice measurement A does not take into consideration the table nest. Therefore , I would drop to compensate and drop even more if I was going to go with a paver/ nest comboLBGE& SBGE———————————————•———————– Pennsylvania / poconos

I'm in the same boat as the OP. My egg is still sitting in my garage in the box. I've seen the PDF on the BGE website but I think the best thing to do is go to an egg dealer that has some XL BGE's in tables and do some measuring myself. That's on my list of things to do this weekend if I have time.

Take into consideration your height also when building yours. I'm 6'4" and I like the extra height the paver/nest combo provides on the stock BGE medium table I have. If I were building one from scratch, mine would be taller....

Do I need to use feet if I use a concrete paver? I can buy feet for it just wanted to make sure I could still use my egg on the paver until then
-
Why risk it? There's been fires posted lately. I'd only want to put my XL in a table once.

+100000000 on the nest. $30 buys you a lot of insurance. After only 3.5 months my table was discolored underneath the paver. You need something under the nest as well, but I can stick my hand under the hot egg with the air gap.

In my table, I have my Large sitting on three green feet on a paver. No problems there.John in the Willamette Valley of Oregon

I'd like to build one out of block myself, I originally planed on the BGE wood table but have heard horror stories about fires. Found this and thought it was a good idea. Needs to be covered in stone veneer in my opinion.
