Flame Boss controller

Ok Eggers, what's the skinny on the Flame Boss? We sell the digi q products, but always looking for options for our customers. I reviewed them at the HPBA show in Nashville yesterday. I'd like your personal experiences and feedback. They look well built and easy to use. They have a wifi coming soon. I got a peek and it looks great.

I really like mine. Never had a problem with it. I'd consider it a middle of the road pit controller. Has more bells and whistles than the basic ones, but doesn't have internet or wifi which is fine by me since I don't usually leave when the Egg is lit.

He showed me a wifi which is coming real soon. Looks easy to use. I like the tech stuff dumbed down for the masses, as a retailer. Thanks for your comments.

I've sold quite a few of them......they are SUPER EASY to program.  The simple one knob set it and forget it model like a IQ110 is the easiest--but if you want the extra functions, the FlameBoss by far the easiest to use.  I also like how the display shows all the info at once (pit temp, pit set temp, meat temp, and fan speed.)  No waiting or pushing buttons to cycle through.  Plus with the big screen, no abbreviations.  If you don't use the thing very often, you do not have to study up on how to program it every couple months.  The only thing that was missing on was the ability to ramp up the temp; it only ramps down.

I bought one from @stlcharcoal and I have used it quite often for the low & slow cooks. It works very good and is fairly simple to operate.

I love my Flameboss. Easy to set up, and it works like a charm for low & slow.

@pgprescott - Its perfect timing that you brought this up.  I am about to pull the trigger on getting a Flame Boss.  But knowing now that the wifi unit will be coming out soon, I might wait a bit.

The wifi definitely looks good. Easy to use like the other flame boss. I think we will be adding these units to our store.

No. I might have a chance to ask tomorrow. It looks ready to go. They had one that has been used and tested.

Met the owners today at the PNW eggfest. The product really looked top notch, quality all around. I would have pulled the trigger if not for my digi q dx2 purchase last year, I know where I will look in the future or even for replacement parts as i think some may be interchangeable.

I got my Flameboss 200 Wi-Fi dealer demo unit last week.......very cool.  I just ordered a dozen.  Before, I sold the other Wi-Fi units with the caveat/disclaimer that the customer was NOT allowed to call me for tech support or return it because they couldn't get the network set up.  This thing is fool proof.  If anyone wants to log into it, I have it set up on my workbench.  Just send me an email (not a PM), and I'll give you my username and password to my controller.

Does that mean we can help on your cooks.  Won't that be fun ... kind of like playing Pong with your temps.

I've been using the Flame Boss 200 WiFi for some time now. The setup is unbelievably easy and the unit itself works perfectly.

You might be onto something.  "EggHeadForum assisted cooks"  You post your issue here and a BGE-pro logs into your FB200 and saves dinner.

@stlcharcoal ... It would have to be a singular BGE-pro.  I know you've read the "what's your favorite lump?" threads.  I love this group, but they can't settle on something as simple as the top five lump brands.  Can you imagine a "group help" on saving dinner ...

No, I stop reading any thread when they go into the third or fourth page......just a pissing match after that until it hits the 8-9th page or so until the rest lose interest.  Then it turns into troll posts as a joke, then a meme thread, then finally a porn thread before getting deleted.  Entertaining at times, but this is the busy season.

And it's not that the group has to agree on ANYTHING, much less the top-5 whatever.

Rather than simply "I like this because of these reasons", it turns into "You're favorite sucks, because I heard it sucks from someone (who has never used it), and my favorite is 1,000,000x better because I need to convince myself my favorite is the best."  If we all didn't own BGE's here, it would be a constant fight over grills/smoker brands.

Charcoal seems to be horse that gets beaten to death the most because of the hundreds of brands using hundreds of species, regional availability & pricing, fragility of it, humidity & temp, and most of all, the fact that an ALL NATURAL PRODUCT is never going to be the same.  Especially when you put it in non-mechanical cooker with a 3000 y/o design--BGE's are never going to be as accurate as a commercial convection oven no matter how may accessories & electronics you strap to it.

    Ok, Rant over......

Everybody has there favorite way to light, type of smoke wood, temp controller, gasket, brand of charcoal, etc......and that's fine.  They all work and that's all that really matters in the end.

All this forums needs to focus on that kamado** cooking "FREAKIN ROCKS".

**(preferably with a BGE since they are fronting the cash for this place.  :)  )
