WHAT a day!

As some of y'all know, I'm an ER nurse.  Even though I'm in a big trauma center we see everything from the worst of the worst of trauma injury to a pt that "got a customer complaint at work" or a hangnail.  Seriously.  Far too often, we just see society's addiction to pain medications.

Today, we got to put our skills to the test and actually save a life - two actually.  I am just sitting here decompressing and the magnitude of my day just hit me.  Difficult, critically ill patient and we ROCKED it.  Even the doc gathered us up and high fived us all in front of our VP.  It was a good, good day.  We don't get those too often.

I just had to get that OUT!

That's great!  Work can be so tiring, and monotonous sometimes.  I know the feeling when you pull it all together and it makes the other days seem worthwhile also.

    Cheers.

Good for you @Chicklet! Making a difference not only for the patients but also all their loved ones makes for a very noble day.

Nice job.  SWMBO is a nurse in telemetry, she doesn't see all the insanity of triage, but she runs codes now and then and knows the feeling.

Great job. From one nurse (ER, OR.and ICU) to another it's always great to have this kind of win. You deserve to be proud.

It's a blessing to have people who do what you do on this earth......it takes a special disposition.  Thanks!

    Awesome work!

From a non-med field, this gives me a great feeling knowing that people do care and care about their profession, and more importantly care about society, no matter what.

    Thanks for your hard work.

Great job @Chicklet, and commend your dedication to our profession!

It's nice when you work with people who deliver when the SHTF, and a code runs flawlessly.

Been reflecting on my short career as well today.  Got a letter in the mail last night stating I have been selected as 1 of 100 Great Iowa Nurses for 2015.  Such an honor.
Close friend received a $6000 check for her dedication to her organization yesterday at a conference in Texas.

Feels good to shed some tears of joy for once.  Wish I got a quarter for every time someone tells me they don't know how I work on Oncology.

It's for days like this.  And having pts in remission visit the floor, out in the world flourishing, thriving....LIVING.........truly inspiring and soul rejuvenating.

When we grow weary, we need to cherish these days.

    Again, GREAT JOB!

@focker  That is so AWESOME!!!  Congrats!!
It IS good to know you "done good" and I love seeing us pull it all together and get 'er done.  I love it even more when we can just do what needs to be done and few words are spoken in the room.  It is just 'understood.'

@Jeepster47  I love the "mental trophy mantle."  That is exactly what that felt like.

I love that patients like this do tend to bond us as a team.  I really am lucky that I work with the best ER and trauma nurse on the planet and everyone puts his / her patient first.  It isn't even up for discussion.  It feels good to be part of that.

Having spent 9 hours in ER, followed by 36 more in ICU, and then 3 more days in a regular hospital room, I truly appreciate those who saved my life.

Thank you chicklet and all of your fellow comrades that work in the trenches of the hospital.
