Best Lump for the money? (ie best value)

So the Ace store in my neck of the woods (Anchorage, AK) says he doesn't see Rockwood as an option in his system. He does sell the Wicked Good Weekend Warrior.

Had been using RO for years with a few bags of FOGO mixed in the middle there whenever my neighbor was placing an order and I could piggy back on his no-cost Amazon Prime Shipping! The RO always seemed "good enough" for my needs, but FOGO had some really large lumps and always performed well. However, I do read a LOT on here about the OO and RW and WGWW, so always wanted to try them for comparison. Soooo.....Getting ready to open the bag of RW I just got a the local ACE for $20/20lb bag and check it out. Many long time Eggers on here can't be wrong!

I found this when I did a search for lump charcoal in Cleveland, OH. Worth a try or see what they got. Firecraft's deal is pretty good, I pay $23 for a 20 lb bag of Rockwood. It's great stuff. That's all I use right now.stlcharcoal said:blakeas said:any others that I can just find locally (Cleveland, OH) that have a good clean taste here in ohio?
saluki2007 said:@stlcharcoal should be able to tell you if RW is available in your area.
We do not have any dealers in that area, best bet is probably one of the online dealers. For other brands, you might try a place called Cleveland Charcoal Supply. I'm not sure who/where they source from, but they're at local for you if you don't want to mess with shipping.

When I order from Firecraft, I'll buy 3 bags of Rockwood (20 pound bags) and 4 bags of Ozark Oak (10 pound bags). All total it comes to 1 dollar per pound which is good for premium lump. I switch bags each time I run out to change it up.

Okay, just to wrap up my plight, I did hear back from Firecraft's shipping man and he was unable to find a way to ship it cheaper (around $200 for 100 pounds). So it is obviously not practical to order if you live in the Last Frontier (Alaska). Still, I can appreciate their customer service.

My two cents - in dollars per pound, the 40 lb. bags of Quebracho from Amazon are $40 delivered to Prime members. Dollar a pound delivered is best I've found for lump that is better than most.

BBQ is a celebration of culture in America. It is the closest thing we have to the wines and cheeses of Europe.
Drive a few hundred miles in any direction, and the experience changes dramatically.

I was doing this for a while, but I find I really prefer the smaller bags of OO. They seemed to be packed tighter as well. (And nothing against RW, which is a quality product).
