Hilton Head Island - Tell me pros and cons of taking summer vacation there

It's called I77. Straight shot to I26 towards the coast.

And the nice growler place in that spot's gone too. Their website was still up in August, though, which was a real pisser until I discovered that the Whole Foods fills growlers.bo31210 said:Also @eggcelsior the Piggly Wiggly is no more. They closed it when the Kroger opened on the site of the old mall but in its place is a Whole Foods
One tip- the grocery stores are an IMAX nightmare on Sundays. You can easily place an online order with the Harris Teeter for curbside pickup and really drop some minivan drivers' jaws.

Hilton Head is one of my favorite veg. and relax vacations. I go on the beach, pool, condo - lunch, and then back to beach. Awesome restaurants and traffic is really not that bad when put in perspective. Plenty to do if you want to venture out also.

I need to meet some egg heads on the island in May.

XL, Mini Max, and a 22" Blackstone in Cincinnati, Ohio -
YEMTrey, I didn't read this entire thread, but the vacation you just described is Outer Banks, NC to a T. There is some golf around there if you play (I don't so can't comment on the courses). Like you, I shy away from places where I have to drive to the beach from my rental house.YEMTrey said:I've vacationed up and down the east coast and my family wants to do something different this year. I've started thinking about Hilton Head. Having never been there, I need some ideas from those who have.
First off, I'm a beach bum. My vacations consist of hauling a canopy, cooler, and bluetooth speaker to the beach and hanging out all day. Need to be right on the beach....
Every town in the stretch is a little different depending what you want. Hands down the most beach bum area is down near Cape Hatteras (Frisco, Buxton, etc.) There are just enough food stores and restaurants to get what you need, but it's clearly a beach community focused on just that.
You want to go a little old school beach with smaller houses, close together, piers, icecream shops, etc. Hit up Nags Head. Little lower rent in some places so you may get a more crowded beach experience.
If you want a great family beach with good shopping for the wife and a very dog friendly town, hit up Duck.
And if you want higher end large plush golf community houses, go to Corolla.
There is variability in all of those areas to get the size house you want and to be on the beach or on the sound (bay). It's a pretty cool area and in all of them you can easily find a house on or near the beach that will fit your budget. Plus, there is some great fresh seafood down there all summer long that will keep you happy on the grill in the evening.
It's all good. I'm sure wherever you choose will be a winner.
