Tennessee style (AKA NOT Carolinas) Pulled Pork Recipe Request
Hey all,
My wife is from Tennessee (although now she lives up in Canada with me) and I am throwing her a surprise party in a couple weeks. I wanted to add to the surprise and make her some pulled pork sandwiches, complete with slaw and beans.
I have been searching for a great recipe for the rub, sauce, slaw and beans, but everything I come across is heavy on the vinegar (for the sauce), which I understand is more the Carolinas way of doing it.
Does anyone have a great Tennessee style recipe for the rub and sauce? Ideally for the beans and slaw too but I can probably find something for them.
Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Not exactly sure if there is a Tennessee style. Maybe pulled pork with Memphis style sauce possibly.------------------------------

Right, sorry, I think what I am calling Tennessee style is Memphis style. The main thing is that Carolina sauce I vinegar based and that's a no-no in Tennessee

So, it really goes on the sauce. So put more brown sugar/molasses and ketchup with the base sauce and you have it licked.------------------------------

Here are some ideas:Note there is a memphis dust dry rub recipe. As this article states there is not really a "memphis style" sauce. I have had lots of Q in memphis and sauces made in memphis and they are all different. I think you may just have to pick one you like. For example, I had this sauce:...it was really good, but it was pretty heavy on the vinegar and Worcestershire sauce. If you wife likes a sweeter sauce it might be cool to do a Jack Daniels whiskey sauce. You could just order something like this:(although it is a little pricey).Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

If you can get it shipped central bbq's hot bbq sauce is incredible.Memphis, TN ----> Chattanooga, TN

One more thing-- the rendezvous rub and sauce is on Amazon prime if you decide to go that route. There hot bbq sauce is too spicy for most people so we tend to stick with regularMemphis, TN ----> Chattanooga, TN

@biggreentom ...where is she from in Tennessee. Tennessee pulled pork is about the same everywhere. ..lots of hickory and pulled, not chopped. The only difference I see is the sauce. Memphis sauce is thick and sweet. Look for Stubbs, Sticky Fingers...they both have Memphis style ...I'd ship you some but with shipping it'd be a $45 bottle of sauce.Green egg, dead animal and alcohol. The "Boro".. TN

Thanks all! She's from Rogersville in North East Tennessee.
I think I am going to try the Memphis Dust rub from above and this recipe for the sauce:

Maybe you can score a bottle of blues hog Tennessee red or smoky mountain sauce. Might be hard to get in Canada though. Here is a video of a knock off version I have seen but not used.
