So it will restore it to the original factory settings right?

I will then login to I tunes and reload all of her pics and games etc?

When you're ready to rebuild, you then just restore from your backup.  Everything will automagically load back onto the iPad.

  • Ok I will be trying later tonight. I love the Ipad, but having to hire someone to change a battery is a real pain in the ass.

It doesn't have to be this complicated. Whatever happened to remove the cover and slip in a new battery like I do with my droid phone? My wife and kids have Iphones and the battery is just as much a pain to deal with on those as they are the ipad.

Going to try this on Saturday and see if it still works:

Also, keep in mind that to get the most life out of your iPad or any rechargeable battery you need to do a full charge cycle at least once a month. Meaning drain the battery to 0 from 100 and then charge it to 100% without unplugging it. If you're charging it without killing it on a regular basis without doing this full cycle it can deteriate the battery life significantly over time.

I don't think full discharge is recommended for newer generation (e.g., Lithium Ion) batteries. More frequent, shallow discharges, are recommended instead.

Here's an article about it, and the following is excerpted from that link:

"The shorter the discharge (low DoD), the longer the battery will last. If at all possible, avoid full discharges and charge the battery more often between uses."

  • @greenenvy, I don't know about that. I just know that if you look on apples website they recommend a full cycle at least once a month.

This is my second biggest hang-up with Apple. I like accessing the battery!

I am doing a backup via I tunes right now. This IPad 2 has version 7.1 (11D167) on it. I was thinking I need to upgrade to IOS 8.1.3, but I am getting a message that tells me that the update can't be installed because it requires 1.4GB of storage.

What should I do?  I don't care about upgrading. My only goal is to be able to charge the battery.

I am at the point of just buying her an I Pad Air. Will all of the files I back up in I tunes for the I pad 2 be able to be transferred to the new I pad Air?

I know some of you techies will know the answer.

  • First significant trouble, call for the Tech guys. ;) files go with the Apple ID. If you backed up, you're good.

Settings>General>Usage>Manage Storage.  See what the storage is being used for and delete whatever is possible to clear it up.  Also, it's only .99/a month to increase your cloud storage.

Don't give up on your iPad yet...still might be worth saving.

Go in.  Voice support is only the way to go if you have Apple Care.

  • The guy that changed the batteries cracked the screen in the other one. That one is charging, but it will be next week before the replacement screen comes in.

I feel like I just threw away $210.  Never ever again.

  • Quick update. I gave both I pads back to the guy yesterday morning. One of them charged fine after the battery install, but he cracked the screen so he is replacing the screen.

He is replacing the battery on the one that would not charge. I told him to keep the one with the battery issue until he made sure it was working. He just sent me a message and said it was charging.

Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Awesome! Glad the guy is standing behind his work.
