Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for there rib advice over the weekend. Cooked out a couple of baby back racks Sunday using the 3/1/1 method and they came out awesome ! Much better than my previous attempts. I used apple juice in the drip pan instead of beer and it gave them a great sweet taste. I didn't even use any 'que sauce before or after. The ribs were so juicy, I ate'm as they were right off the egg.
Wanted to mention in particular, Hasenfeffer, Bobby Q, Car Wash Mike, tach18K and groundfish. You are fine folks !

<p />Brill,[p]Glad they turned out well for you. They really are easy after a couple tries. If you like the apple juice taste, Max applies applesauce at some point but you have to ask him.[p]Mike
  • Car Wash Mike,
yep, i've been know to rub em, then slather them in thick applesauce or apple butter, then put them on to smoke. . .kinda makes its own sweet sauce. . ..i like em. .

mad max beyond eggdome,[p]I'm batching it for a few days. Tammy doesn't like sweet ribs, I just picked up a slab of St. Louise style. What else do you do. I'm going to cut in half and try a couple different kinds.[p]Mike
  • mad max beyond eggdome,
That sounds good ! I will have to try that. I always wind up hungry after visiting this forum.I had also rubbed down the ribs in plain yellow mustard like I saw on the BGE video I got with my egg. Then I coated in Dizzy Dust and refrigerated over night, so they weren't overly sweet, had a nice bite. I live in GA where the bbq is more vinegar based, which I usually eat.But my dad grew up here too and he likes the sweet kind of sauce with molasses better, so I guess it is whatever you like. I will eat any kind of bbq, personally.

  • Brill,
I'm glad your rib feast went well. I've found the baby backs are one of my favorites on the egg (along with the Boston Butts, spatchcock chickens, pizza's, etc, etc.) It's amazing how much info is shared on this forum. I've never been steered wrong here and I seem to learn somehting new every day.[p]

  • Brill,
I've heard that they come out real nice if you put a little rootbeer in the foil when you wrap them. I'm not a rapper, so I wouldn't know about these things.

  • Car Wash Mike,
i really like the apple sauce/butter with dizzy raging river[p]my other favorite is ken stones witchy red rub, and then sauced with something like 'bone sucking sauce' or ken's big chief. ... [p]
