My First Boston Butt
Smoked a 8 lb. butt with apple & pecan for over 12 hours. Took about 9 hours to get to 165 before I wrapped in foil. Finally after over 12 hours it was ready to rest at 195. Wife & kids really enjoyed it. Was definitely worth the wait.

thanks everyone
yes temp held around 225 dome temp for about 10 hours then spiked a little to around 245 for the last 2 hours.
I decided to experiment with my own rub, first time doing this as well.
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup paprika
- 1/4 cup garlic powder
- 2 tablespoons black pepper
- 2 tablespoons onion powder
- 1 tablespoon sea salt
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
this was on top of a mustard slather with crystal Worcestershire to thin it out.
This was fun!!!
