Did you see their explanation of why they missed the call?

I got about 3 paragraphs in and realized it was way too weather geeky for me, and I'm a bit of geek. :)
    Read the whole thing...

I've been a bit of a weather geek since I was kid. My dad was taught how to read weather maps and charts in the Army Air Corp (he flew B-17s) and as a result, every snow storm was an opportunity for him to teach me something...

I'm led to believe this is all a result of global warming ..... err ..... climate change.
Wonder what they'll call it next week? 4 Seasons? That'll be bad too.8-|

If it rains, climate change. If it snows, climate change. If it sunny & warm, climate change. If it's cloudy & cool, climate change.

Jim Cantore didn't show up for this "epic" snow. I'm glad y'all didn't get buried as it was anticipated/forecasted. Could've been ugly with a lot of power outages.

You can have your quakes @UncleFred. I was sitting in a skyscraper in Long Beach across from the World Trade Center when a small one hit. Took a second to figure out what happened because a snowboard fell and hit me in the head. The brief shake wasn't bad, it was staying on the 14th floor of that building swaying for several minutes that scared the hell out of me. Cell phones were useless because everybody was trying to use them at the same time. Had no idea what was going on. I never want to be in the big one that destroys SoCal.

I'll echo that. Unless you are somewhere that absolutely never gets it (like Atlanta last year), snow is a minor distraction. You stay home for a day or two and let road crews do their work, and then you resume normal life. I don't understand people swarming the grocery stores - you will be able to resume normal activity in a couple days, do you need 5 gallons of milk and 60 rolls of TP?

Where I live, I'll take quakes any day. We had a 7.1 a few years back (epicenter was about 100 miles away) that went on for 20-30 seconds but where we live it was just a minor rattle. the closest active fault to me is 65-70 miles away.  My son on the other hand lives in Napa and that 5.6 last year tore the town up.  He had cracks in a few walls.  ....and 5.6 isn't big.

But you're right, eventually Cali is gonna get hit hard.  It's the folly or hubris of mankind. San Francisco gets destroyed by a major EQ fault underneath it and they rebuild it IN THE SAME LOCATION.  New Orleans and Miami are built at sea level (or below) in a hurricane zone, all around the world we build cities on the sides of ACTIVE volcanoes.... and then when the inevitable happens we wail and cry and blame mother nature (or global warming).

I have a poster of a lightning strike, at night lighting up a tornado! Now THAT would be a scary thing to see.
