I've noticed in some of ya'lls pic's that you have what appears to be some heat resistant gloves.[p]Please point me in the right direction as where to locate some.[p]Thanks,
Chasb

chasb,[p]Those aren't gloves. A REAL Egger's hands soon become dark and leathery and heat-proof.[p][Just kidding.][p]Actually, those gloves are available at any bbq store. I use welder's gloves, available at hardware stores. The longer, the better!
  • Dan is right. Go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get welder's gloves. Mine are Lincoln brand and I think they were $11.00. No only do they keep you from getting hand burns when you are lighting the lump, you can pick up reasonably hot items for short periods of time. You will know when you have picked up something too hot or held it too long.

    Alan P,
Had to wear latex gloves for the competition this weekend, it's a tough lesson when you forget to do the 1)remove latex 2)apply leather routine and just go ahead and grab hold of that roasting rack with the Boston butts off the EGG. [p]Cheers,

To coin a phrase, that's when the rubber meets the roast!

    <p />chasb,
several of us have gone with this brand called the Orka Oven Mitt. They are more expensive than leather welder's gloves but they have some nice features. You can pick up hot things in excess of 500 degrees - Cook's Illustrated rated them as have the highest pain threshold of 90 seconds as compared to welder's gloves of only 15 seconds - and when they get dirty, which they will, you merely wash them off. My set of trusty old leather gloves which I still have are pretty yucky in appearance. Granted Orka's cost more but IMHO in the long run are a better value. The are sold single for 19.99 each, but I picked up two at Amazon for 15.99 each.

    chasb,
LOL - no, but I should have told you there are two sizes - I have the 11" ones they also have 17" ones. 17" would go over my elbow so too long in my book. I suppose though if you plan to use them with a hot oil turkey frier the 17" would be ideal protection in that splatter environment.

  • RRP,
I only found blue, red, translucent, black, charcoal, and tangerine, in 11 inch and 17 inch lengths. Alas, no green.

    JefH,
I honestly didn't know they came in colors - afterall as I said I bought mine at Amazon at a nice price of only 80% of MSRP.
