    @dareber congratulations that was a steal. You may want to ask here on the forum but I believe that is the older nest which would cause the egg to crack when it would get real hot. Post the question here so some people will chime in. If the dont try sending @mickey as I believe he has posted about the topic. Again great score. Did u pay $175 or the buy it now of $225? ENJOY.

    Yes, that is an older style nest. I wouldn't use it in that nest much. The ceramics expand when heated and over time a stress fracture can develop around the nest ring, causing the ceramic to crack and the bottom to drop down and fire spill out.

    Pick up a new mini nest from a local dealer for not much money.

    Thanks guys. This is my first egg. someone on FB told me about the nest prob so I went ahead and upgraded it. I also purchased a plate setter but it doesn't fit in the fire ring. After cruising this forum I see I have to purchase a replacement fire ring. Can I order it online anywhere? Another question, while you guys are so charitable to a newbie, where do I go to learn about lid closure. This one has a stainless steel hinge with one stainless lid support on the right side (facing). Closing the lid seems clumsy and does not align. Thanks!
