Amazon Prime

Thinking about it.....just wondering if anyone has it and wondering of the pros and cons.

The problem with a problem is that you don't know it's a problem until it's a problem, and that is a big problem.

It's habit forming. Makes it REAL easy to buy stuff. Plus, if you like movies or some one at home likes movies, the movie/tv on demand is pretty good. Not everything on the service comes with it, but the rentals are priced fairly. Don't use the music service much.

Worth it if you order a lot from there and stream movies.  Free cloud space, access to lighting deals earlier, first grabs on new products like the Echo and FireStick, etc.

On things that you don't need the free 2-day shipping, you can select the free 3-5 day and get a $1 credit toward a non-prime movie.  Do that with multiple carts rather than putting everything in one cart, and more credits for movies.

BTW, if you have a .edu email, you can get Prime for $49/yr.

The real deal is to talk someone else into purchasing it, and then, have them add your name to their account.  It's above board and kosher. As the addee, many of the extras are not available, but the free prime shipping is great!

Use it all the time, it's almost too easy to shop.  I don't like wandering around town shopping.  We did 75% plus of our Christmas shopping on Amazon.

We have it and we were ecstatic with it initially. The music and such were nice inducements. The major thing was the guaranteed 2 day shipment of things listed as Prime products. It has actually devolved form our point of view after the initial hype. It now appears to have been a ploy by Jeff bezos to enrich himself even more. Seems like the classic bait & switch to me. Often the Amazon Prime icon is shown next to a product, and when you get to checkout, you are told this order is only being "fulfilled" by Amazon and therefore not available for the two shipping. Perhaps others may disagree, but I feel if you show the prime icon next to a product it should be free two day shipping.....that company makes so much money that they should absorb whatever small loss they incur on the small number of these sales in anticipation of the even greater profits they make in other areas. You don't think that Amazon isn't charging those third party sellers to warehouse and advertise their products do you? That man is making on both ends as well as in the middle......pretty devious and shoddy I feel...very misleading....most people would consummate the deal even after finding out they have to pay shipping....We don't use it much any more....the best part of it (free 2 day shipping) and it isn't available nearly as frequently as before.....shame on the bazillionaire...

The convenience factor of Prime makes it more than worth the cost for me.  I'm a generation behind the instant gratification kids, but trying to catch up!!

  • Love it. As other posters have said, it almost makes it too easy to shop.

I did the math and I have placed almost 50 orders in the pas 12 months. Divide that into the $99 fee, and I think $2 shipping per order is a good deal, not to mention the free amazon video, kindle lending library, etc.

    I'm hooked.

Love it just for the shipping. Don't currently use for Music or Movies. The "free" prime member movie selection is pretty poor. PS it is free for new/expectant mothers for up to ~90 days. It is great getting diapers, wipes, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.

Used it for the free 30 days for Xmas gifts to ship across states but no way on a regular basis.
I support local drug stores and shops etc rather than.support what I view as the WalMart of the internet.

So my products costs 15-20% more at the drug store, they have a presence and support people with jobs here. My opinion fwiw

I really like Amazon prime.  The free shipping is great and I think the video service is pretty good.  I think it is on par with Netflix.  I still have Netflix because my kids want it but I watch Amazon Instant Video far more often.  The movie selection isn't great but I can usually find some shows to binge watch.  For example, they have many older HBO series such Sopranos, The Wire, Carnival, Deadwood, etc.

I like my prime. You have to watch amazon though because everything isn't a deal anymore. Just an example I bought 10 packs of baby hangers for like $5 a pack and it was a number 1 seller. Went to Target and they were $1.08 per pack the exact same thing. Also Bestbuy will match Amazons price now and you can get it that day and not wait. I got my dropcam last month from Bestbuy and it was $50 cheaper than Amazon. That being said there are still alot of things I buy from Amazon.

We have it and use it all the time. As another said, be be careful with pricing. Recent example Apple chunk wood $20. At local store same thing is $10.

I looked and we did 80 orders last year!

Subscribe and save can be nice for some things too. We use it for dog food and diapers.

We don't use the streaming that much. I like Netflix better.

I don't watch many movies, so the Prime selection is just fine and not paying for Netflix almost pays for the Prime account.  I'm buying music CDs constantly, and being able to play them streaming on my cool new Amazon Echo is a great bonus.
Exotic grocery selection isn't great here in utard, and I find myself buying more and more groceries thru Prime now too (free shipping on Dizzy Pig!)
I do try to buy from different businesses where practical, however; if I try out different knife sets in a brick-n-mortar store, I'll buy the set there too, even if it costs a bit more.  I also buy all my electronics from Crutchfield, whose prices mostly match Amazon, have free shipping, and outstanding customer service.
