Boneless Prine Rib cooking time

Follow Eggies I have a 4 pound boneless prime rib that I want to prepare today for a meal time of around 6:00 tonight. When should I start my fire and when should the prime rib go on the smoker?

  • I would like to do a reverse sear. It will be a indirect heat, I have a place setter for smoking.

Ok ..There are so many different methods you will find on the forum search. This is what I did last week on a 6 lb prime rib. I did not do a sear, I just ran the whole cook at 350 F dome.. Working on 20 min a pound. I had a temp probe in the centre of the roast and pulled the meat at 120 internal. Covered and wrapped in a towel. It climbed to about 140 -145 and was perfect all the way through. Hassle free and In my opinion I don't think I lost anything with not doing a sear..Hope this helps and I am sure you will get lots more opinions..Enjoy your Prime Rib..

Have to agree with johnmitchell. That's what I did for christmas day feast Came out perfect. Not sure if johnmitchell did direct or indirect but I went indirect. No sear needed. My roast was 12lb bone in.
