Smokeware Cap vs BGE Cover

Installed a Nest Handler on my large egg yesterday ... thanks @Mickey ... hated to spend the money, but it really does make it more secure for moving.

Once the handler was on, I checked to see if the cover would still fit. I'll only use the cover a couple of times a year, but it would have been a shame for it not to fit. No problems on the fit ... looks like it is loose enough to cover side tables also. The problem occurred when taking the cover off ... stripped the top of the Smokeware cap off in a split second. You guys warned me and I was paying attention, but it still got away from me. Once free, it slide down the side of the egg like a greased pig, and then, bounced on the cement. Damn. First war wound.
Don't want to take the Smokeware cap off when using the cover - my BGE caps are cleaned up and in storage - so, here are a few ideas for insuring that the cap will stay on when removing the cover:
Short piece of rope ... mine has a loop, but knotting it would work:

Or, a short loop of Velcro looks like it will work:

Even a paint stirring stick would work:

Any other ideas?

Love the handler... Makes it so much easier to move it when I need to, rare though, maybe once or twice a year.
Only use the cover when it's calling for freezing rain; otherwise she just sits enjoying the weather. Just have to be mindful of any of the tops when taking off the cover.MSV Chill Spot
