cast iron grate

My cast iron grate broke last night with no real force applied to it. I have been reading about the custom steel grates, my questions are do they give as good grill marks, do they clean easier, are they more sturdy and where would I look to get one, even a custom one. Thanks in advance!

Don't know about the custom ones. One alternative would be 3/8" diameter SS rods. Here are two options. Both expensive. Don't know what size egg you have so maybe these won't fit. For me, when my CI grid dies, I'll just get a stock grid or similar.http://michaelscustomgrillworks.com/products.htmI have never purchased from either so not an endorsement. As if that meant anything.
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Steel and stainless steel transfer heat better than cast iron. The big appeal of cast iron is the grill grates are usually more massive (hold more heat) than what you typically find in steel or SS.
You unfortunately found out the main weakness of cast iron - namely that it's brittle.
