Chip of any concern?
I found a small chip under my gasket. It is only near the outside edge and there are no cracks. Should I be concerned?

I wouldn't be but I also don't sweat the small stuff. With a lifetime warranty you have some time just in case it changes for the worse. Just my opinion though. Others may disagree.XL BGE, LG BGE, and a hunger to grill everything in sight!!!Joe- Strongsville, OH

Looks like a new XL ... yes? Looks like the chip is still attached to the seal ... yes? So, you could use some JB weld to cover the ceramic color and make the seal surface level again. But, that's a lot of money to spend on a blemished egg.
Why live with a blemish from the get go ... at least take a picture into your dealer and express your disappointment, Give him/her a chance to make you happy again.
jcaspary has a point, "don't sweat the small stuff", but I'm too OCD with my equipment and would be knocking on my dealers door.

I'm the same way with anything I own. That small chip will drive me crazy. I will take the pic to the dealer and see what they say.

Oh, it is a large.

Opps, thought the bolt thread was the spring on an XL. Keep us informed.Sistm said:Oh, it is a large.

Mine chipped the first week I had it, but its just up on the top near the daisy wheel. I call it "Character," but I did document it with my dealer so just in case it were to grow I would be able to get it replaced.

Down the road if you want to change out to a Rutland gasket, you might have an issue with a void in that are of the dome. With a Rutland, you don't put any gasket on the dome. How long have you had your egg? Did the dealer assemble it? I would definitely go talk to them if it were me. Make sure not to mention a Rutland gasket though.L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. I have had it for a few months and the dealer did assemble it. The chip is only on the outside edge in the picture. It doesn't span much under the gasket.

See what your dealer says. You may soon have an extra dome in your possession!

Obviously the chip occurred after the gasket was installed either during packaging at the mfg plant, during shipment, or during unpacking and assembly. Did you set it up yourself or the dealer? Was there any damage to the packaging? (that edge would face up inside the box at the top of the box). The chip is very near the wrenching of the strap tension bolt so it could have popped when torquing the bolt. (you can call me Mr. Obvious) Either way, if you get a new dome as a result this could possible the best company in the world for standing behind their product. Let us know the outcome. Happy cooking.

I was in a similar situation except the chip was in the inside, I never complained and haven't noticed any issues...such as leaking...so for me I got lucky. BUT, I am kinda OCD about things I can visually see all the time...so knowing the chip was there on the exterior it would get to me! I would bring it up to your dealer.

It was put together by the dealer. As a matter of fact it was already together at the store when I bought it. I noticed it when I was getting ready to re-tighten all the bolts. It looked like a small crack and when I touched it, it kind of flaked away.

--UPDATE--
I contacted my dealer, Bells Seed in Fayetteville NC, and they were very helpful. I spoke with Jeff there and he asked me to just shoot him an email with a picture of the chip. Within an hour of sending him the picture he called me back and said it was approved!! I am swinging by Bells Seed after work and Jeff will give me a dome they have in stock.
Awesome customer service from both BGE and Bells Seed!!

Cool ... don't you feel better about your egg already?
All products will have problems at one time or another. Those manufacturers who recognize a customer's problem as an opportunity to turn a bad feeling (product's defective) into a positive feeling (manufacturer replaced it not with a hassle, but with a smile) have a much greater chance of being successful.
