Add charcoal?

I'm a new BGE user. After smoking meat for a couple of hours, my fire goes out. Is this normal to have to add more charcoal? Am I doing something wrong?

  • Linda Turner,
You probably did not put enough lump from the start. It is not normal for fire to go out. If the lump did not burn all the way up, you may have an air restriction. Next time you start the Egg, fill it to the top of the fire box unless you are doing a quick cook such as a steak. Before you load the lump, make sure all the air holes in the fire box are open and your fire box is aligned with the vent at the bottom. • Linda Turner,[p]I cooked a Boston Butt not too long ago that was on the BGE for 19 hours -- during that time I didn't even lift the lid, much less add charcoal...perhaps you either don't have enough charcoal or you have the bottom vent shut
