My sons purchased a big green egg for me this fathers day. I would like to use it as soon as possible. I would like to know if I need to season it before I start to use it for cooking.[p]Do I need to soak or spray the inside of the grill with peanut oil or some other oil and then light the charcoal so the ceramic will be "seasoned"?[p]Thanks in advance for your response.[p]Joe

Joe Toler,
NO sir. There is no seasoning required. If you got the tape that comes with the Egg, it would be informative to watch. Make sure you never use any lighter fluids to light the Egg. You can use starter cubes, GreenHeat gell, map gas torch. Just load it up with lump charcoal, the only thing you should ever put in the Egg for fuel, and learn how to make the best food you will ever taste. The more you use the Egg, the blacker it will get and the heat inside the Egg will keep it clean for you. NO cleaning required. Enjoy.[p]Jerry

Jwirlwind,
I use a propane torch to light the Egg. I got one with self ignitor and man does it light the lump. $40 at Harbor freight.[p]Jerry
