I know nothing about knives but the name "Shun" caught my attention.

Lots of name recognition on the brand. Usually one pays a lot for that. I notice that Woot had the same set available at some point. Both the $250 and the $199 are good price points, tho' one is obviously better than the other.

Its an odd set, if you ask me. Don't know why one would want a 6.5" chef knife along w. a 7.5" santuko. Almost like buying 2 of the same thing. And it seems curious that they are solid VG-10. Most manufacturers only have a thin core of VG-10 sandwiched in layer(s) of softer stainless. I wonder if the blade as a whole might be brittle, and prone to break if dropped.

Myself, I don't like the look, too flashy. But that's just me.

If they are $250 on Amazon maybe you could get them for $125 or so on craigslist.  I think Shun offers free sharpening.

I don't see anything that mentions a receipt so if you picked up a used set and had them sharpened I would think they would be as good as new.
