Hello all - Just finished renovating my deck and am chomping at the bit to do something with a table for my egg.
I am wanting to try a type of joinery that I haven't done before: Mortise and
I am looking to self-laminate regular dimensional boards to create the tenon and mortise pockets. I've use a hardwood on the face to make it look good, but pine behind for cost savings. It seems like an easy way to make these.
You woodworkers, @nolaegghead, @ETBee, and others...... whattdaya think?????

That's a very good technique. Very strong joints. I built a workbench using that construction.

Thanks, @nolaegghead. Do you think that it would do ok outside? I was thinking that boards would do better than ply.....

Absolutely. Just seal it everywhere and you'll be good.

I would encapsulate with epoxy, my table top has expanded and opened joints. I used Penofin deck sealant.

This method would just be for the legs and rails. Top shelf will be cypress and lower shelf will be pine or cypress. I don't have the space or the clamps available to make the tabletop.

Something along these lines..... But I'll be using 1x4 pine with a face frame of oak or cedar.
