Is there any way to have a price watch on Amazon?  I am prime, but every time I check FOGO it is $38 or so.  I'll only buy if I get a deal.

@Lit : that happened to one of my shipments a while back. The box with the Fogo in it looked like it had been run over a couple of times. Lump seemed ok. I don't worry about the size of the lump unless the pieces are tiny.

If I see it at $28 again im gonna get enough for a couple years. I almost put 10 bags in my cart this time but I got dirty looks even when the 4 bags showed up. Didnt help that I had just got over 200 pounds of OO and hasty bake. Only bad thing is I have to get 3 35 pound bags into the garage attic today. My Oakridge order came in yesterday so ribs and mac and cheese for dinner. Did a half rack of dominator, half rack of competition pork beef, and another half rack of each sprinkled with death dust. Today is a good day.

Oh darn, you had to go and tell everybody about the camelcamelcamel website.  The next thing you'll be telling them is that they can set up an account to e-mail them when the Fogo lump gets down to a certain price level.  There goes any advantage I had ... mumble, mumble.

Actually, my son just told me about it last night.  Darn kids think they're so smart.

Well I did it and set up a price alert.  However, according to their price history it has not been below $35 in the last year.  I wonder how often they scan, and how long the low prices last.  I guess we'll see

Have been pleased with Royal Oak.  Purchased a large amount on sale for about $.60 per pound at Walmart last summer.  My stock of RO is  starting to run low, so thought I would try a bag of Fogo at about $1.00 per pound instead of buying more RO at about $.75 per pound at Home Depot just to experiment with the difference.

The fogo is much better. I just did ribs fired the XL up got it to 350 then cut back the vents and 5 minutes later clear smoke. Wait till you see how much slower it burns than RO.
  • Such bizarre price swings - $37 yesterday, $41.29 today! No idea what can cause such price vagaries - if it's the cost of the lump to be produced, aren't markets closed Sundays?

I suspect it's dynamic pricing at play.

No the price really does move alot. Pretty common to see $5 swing in a day.

Perhaps it's dynamic pricing based on total demand and the change affects everyone?... I was thinking along the line of more sophisticated individualised dynamic pricing where the price could be different for each person based on buying pattern/history.

I think they're just messing with us.
  • That would be truly unsettling if it's individualized dynamic pricing based on buying patterns/history. I've read that this is what all the grocery store loyalty cards are eventually moving toward.

I cleared cookies/cache and used a different browser. Still $41.29. Now I wish I had pulled the trigger last night instead of endlessly looking at other things and falling asleep!

my grocery store chain is already doing that, I'm getting 20% off pork and beef alternate weeks, not complaining!  few weeks ago I even got 40% off offer that's when I really loaded up on pork loins
