New Egg Parts on an Old Egg?

I have the the old model XL that has the flat dome. I was considering buying the new round dome, but I wanted to see if anyone else had experience doing this? Will the new dome fit the old base?

Craig seems like I've seen a couple of eggers that have done this. Have you done a forum search on this subject already? The circumference is the same? If so, I see no reason why it wouldn't work. Unless maybe you'd have to replace the band/hinge assy as well. Not 100% sure.

Yes, this will work.  Keep in mind they (BGE) also reengineered the inside components to enhance the "head-room" on the XL as well.

Yeah, I'll get the new fire ring as well. Will my old bands still work? Or will I need to replace them also?

I think you should just keep your current XL as it is and and get a second new one.

I picked up a new dome and fire ring today. I'm looking forward to the upgrade!

Yes, bands will work.  I do replace band bolts for new ones though. Give us a pic of the new version of your old Egg.

I'm super stoked with the upgrade! I have always lacked dome height so I'm EGGcited to fill up this bad boy!

Here is the before and after pictures. I also added the new version fire ring that has the cut outs for the plate setter. This has added a ton of real estate to the XL.
