They only make a deep dish pizza stone, no plate setter. I bought that and an extra grill. one grill..then the dd pizza stone..then 2 half firebricks then the second grill. sometimes I use the firebricks to get the meat up higher to let more smoke get at it.. sometimes I dont. I'm silly like that[p]TUS

    fishlessman,
They do not make a plate setter for the small...They do make a 9" Ceramic Baking Dish that works good in the small.

fishlessman,[p]I got the deep dish and an extra grill when I got my small. Problem with the dish is no real air space if you just lay the second "cook" grill on top. Got some stainless carrige nuts and bolts to get the grill a bit higher and then Olde Dave told me about some kiln shelves he got from New Mexico Clay. They have several sizes, I think I got the 10 inch, which works pretty good in the small.

    fishlessman,
Chubby has a set up that he offers for sale. Just getting a small myself I am not 100% familiar with all of the features & benefits, but he has them ready to roll. I believe its called GrateMates. Joe

    fishlessman,
Just make sure you regularly check the ash build up. Air flow gets restricted after a cook or two, making it hard to achieve higher temps.

    fishlessman,
    I have two grids.
A few fire bricks, some whole some broken.
-put the lower grid on the fire ring
-place a few fire bricks on the bottom grid.
-take 3 equal size bricks on the outer edge of the bottom grid standing up, this will be the support for the upper grid.
-place a drip pan on the fire bricks laying down.
    -add the top grid.
    =home made platesetter.

Get the ceramic dish to use as a platesetter. If you grind the cirucular ridge off the bottom of the 'dish', it also makes a great pizza stone.[p]I had a small weber grill grid that I cut down to set the 'dish' on and used some SS all-thread to get the BGE grid up to the level of the lid opening.[p]I like this arrangement[p]Toy Man
  • fishlessman, in addition to the other suggestions, you can use a 9 inch pie pan(add a little water for mass) with an extra grill on top of the pan. Another option is to cut a 13 inch kiln shelf(like a pizza stone) into a plate setter shape, leaving 3 "legs". Then use 3 kiln posts on the "legs" to elevate the upper grill. This has the advantage of maximizing the rather limited space in the small since you can use kiln posts of different lengths, depending on what you are cooking and the space needed.

    katman,
i was surprised that the draft door was so small, but i did get it up to 750 easily.going to be more difficult for cleaning. gasket started to melt so i dropped the temp down quickly, going to let the gasket break in before i bring the temps that high again and melt them. the new hinge compared to my mexican spring band is much better made

  • fishlessman,[p]There are many methods to make this fine little cooker work for you with many types of cooking or baking. There is really not much made for the cooker but it is very easy and inexpensive to come up with some setups that will work very well for most of your cooking. This slick little cooker is the "nuts" as a camping cooker, maybe a cooker to take to the park on a weekend, maybe a cooker you could take to a friends house for a weekend cook or what ever you want to use it for as it will cook for as many as 25 people in a single cook, or prepare a whole meal for maybe just your family at a campsite. By a whole meal, I mean your meat, maybe 2 veggies, your rolls or bread, and also your dessert. All of this can be done in one cook with some inexpensive setups. [p]23MVC-018E.jpg[p]This is my base indirect setup for maximun space in the cooker and also my base for my two level cooking. I think I have about 5 dollars in this setup and I have used it for 2-3 years so I know it works. [p]20mvc-009e.jpg[p]This picture shows 2 large pork butts which weighed a total of 16.82 pounds on the cooker in my maxi setup. I started them on their sides to get them on the cooker and then later got them laid down for the remainder of the cook. [p]20mvc-010e.jpg[p]This is a picture of the butts later in the cook after I got them laid down. This cook is enough meat for about 25 people. [p]My second layer setup for the cooker is also very inexpensive and can be done for about 10 dollars. With this, it is very easy to do a whole meal for your family in one cook like you might want to do if you are using the cooker for your RV, camper, or just at home if you decide that you don't want to fire up a larger Egg. [p]I usually think temp when I plan a whole meal on the cooker. Lets say that we decide on about 350 degrees. For our meats, about any type of chicken will work at this temp, about any meat casserole will work, meatloaf is great at this temp, a chunk of pork loin will also work at this temp so we do have a lot of choices with our meat. For our veggies at this 350 degree cook, baked beans, scalloped potatoes, slab potatoes, or just baked potatoes will work well. Mac and cheese, any type of green bean casserole, or most any veggie can be done at this temp as well. Now for our bread or rolls. 350 degrees is a great temp for about any baking and it does work well for whatever you want to serve with your meal. This is also true with about any dessert. [p]A typical cook for us might be a 2 pound meat loaf on the bottom layer of my setup for the small Egg. On the top layer, we might have scalloped potatoes and some baked beans in two rectangular baking dishes and when the veggies are done, we might follow them up with some yeast rolls and a cobbler of some type for the dessert. [p]Again, this great little cooker will do much more that you might think and is a wonderful cooker for a camper. [p]Dave

  • terrafirmay,[p]I used 1/8" flat aluminum stock that is 3/4" wide that you can find in any hardware store. You can e-mail me for more pictures if you decide to make up a setup like this.[p]Dave
