Mini platesetter

Just got my mini and was wondering if the plate setter for the mini is a worth wile investment?

  • Most likely.  I don't have a mini but before you get excited about it, make sure yours will accept the plate setter.  As long as the fire box has the notches in it, you are good to go.  If it is straight across the top, you have an old style and the plate setter will not fit.

  • I do have the new style. I cannot find one in stock locally. Does anyone know about how much I should expect to pay

  • Get the woo and a stone instead. More versatile

The mini PS is around 35 bucks. While the woo is more versatile, you'll spend double to get the same effect.($55 and $10-15 for the stones)
  • I have the woo and pizza stones and use them all the time, the woo never leaves the egg.

I would get the woo & stones

Nice thing about the Mini Woo and all the Stainless stuff made at Ceramic Grill Store compared to a Platesetter...The legs don't break off a Woo or shatter if dropped or knocked over.

@Photo Egg‌ that's not entirely true. A weld popped on my first mini woo. I have both and use both for different reasons. Above was stated that the woo allows room for more lump but it also takes away room for food since it sits much higher than with the plate setter. I even cut the slots in my plate setter deeper so I have more room for food and less room for lump. I did a 6 pound shoulder with the plate setter and there's no way it would have fit with the woo. The woo is a must for direct cooks though in my opinion.

i would just cook with it for a while, with my mini vision kub ive done some indirect cooks with just folded up tin foil and its been fine. raising the grill just a little is a good option, more important than a platesetter

Lit   Point taken, a weld can pop. But it can also be repaired. Knowing Ceramic Grill Store at no charge. I have 3 broken platesetters at home now. None of the 3 were even dropped. Repairing the break would be temp fix at best so I cut them down for pizza stones or spacers.

The food space issue is a good point. Getting the extra space by cutting the slots in your fire ring deeper is a great idea but also voids the warrantee from BGE. So far, knock on wood, I have never cracked a fire ring. Seems like the firebox takes the blunt of cracking issues. I would also risk it.

Always enjoy your insight, take care.

This. Did this and enjoyed it because we grill quite a bit and for direct (not indirect), the Woo is just awesome!
