I've made the pineapple upside down cake and the chocolate lave cakes. I was real happy with the lava cakes. The pineapple cake...not so much.XL BGE, LG BGE, and a hunger to grill everything in sight!!!Joe- Strongsville, OH

I have baked on my egg one thing i learned was to make sure you egg is level :(Trenton ON 1 mbge for now

I haven't tried a normal cake, but brownies come out nicely. My favorite is cheesecake though. The cheesecake seems to take on the smoke very well. Just make sure you spend the time to get your egg completely stabilized as baking is not very forgiving to temp overshoots.Large BGE and Compact Table (both tornado survivors, thank god), Stoker WiFiRaleigh, NCDoes bourbon make the world go 'round?

I'd bet angelfood would pick up, and complement, smoke too.___________

Only baking I've done is a pineapple upside-down cake. I saw recipes that had the pineapples intact as circles (like this) and others with them diced and covering the entire top. I'd probably dice them next time as there were some slices without pineapple topping. That said, in terms of the actual baking process in the cast iron it worked great. I'll do it again for sure.

I do them all the time! That ALWAYS WOWS potential buyers with the versatility of the BGE! I even have a 6 hour paid gig coming up next week in Peoria, IL where I will be baking multiple cakes for an estimated 1,000 to 1,200 attendees. Here's one from the past...

I love pineapple upside down cake but haven't done it on the egg yet. Maybe I need to.

Since the egg has convective properties make sure you decrease the temp by 25° from what the recipe says.

Cobblers come out really good. As far as desserts go, I prefer cobbler and ice cream over cake or pie. I control temp with bottom vent only and leave DFMT off to allow maximum exhaust of smoke. People can't believe I can make a smoke free dessert cooking with charcoal.Steven

Double layered carrot cakes just take longer due to the cooling needed first before icing and by then some people already have moved on, but they are still WOWSERS when done on the egg!

I do a lot of desserts on the Egg. I love @Griffin pineapple upside down cake. I've also done Apple Cake, Banana Foster Cake and others. Another impressive dessert is Apple Pie baked inside an apple. And for the kiddies, nothing beats S'Mores done in a mini ice cream cone.__________________________________________It's not a science, it's an art. And it's flawed.- Camp Hill, PA

If you can do a clean burn the day before (including the platesetter), you will greatly reduce the chance of having smoke flavor in your baked goods.

I haven't done a ton of baking on the EGG but last weekend I had the pleasure of competing next to Mark Verplats- he made an apple upside down cake that'll make you wanna slap yer momma. Anyway I searched in our forums for the recipe and found one but it has a broken link. Anyway I got lucky and found the recipe on the internet- so I posted it on the thread. Mrs. Puj's Apple Cake- It did well at an EGGfest back before it was cool. Here's the link.
