A little over a week ago I posted about having a crappy week and that I wanted some help planning some meals and spending good times with my family. I was about to get a biopsy (the second in a few months) and knew I would have a week of waiting for my appointment and results to see if I had breast cancer. During that time I met Henapple and switched to ozark oak and rockwood... which has been awesome. I made some pretty good chicken (ok, I spatchcoocked the breast instead of the back bone- I am a new egger!) and also followed the directions for brats cooked in beer and onions and then seared, which my family loved. To complete the meal I also prepared a simple cherry cobbler on the egg. Today I had a Dr's appointment and got good results. I still may need surgery but so far so good. To celebrate I brined some potatoes and did my first reverse sear ribeye. My husband is pretty picky and he said it was the best meal I have ever cooked in the 20 years that we have been married! The ribeyes were like butter! Anyway, I just wanted to thank every one for their help and tell you all how much I enjoyed reading about all of your awesome cooks. In a minute I will switch to my iphone and add a few photos. Thanks everybody! But beware..... I am trying my first brisket flat tomorrow and I will probably need help!

Congratulations on both your cook and your good news! Had to smile at the spatchcocking the breast part - good for you for admitting that! It will get easier with time, but most butchers/groceries stores with meat counters will do it for you if you ask them to. Make sure you save the back bone and the wing tips. Freeze them, and when you have enough, make stock. Free food!
Sounds like you hit it out of the park with your steaks - and good for your DH for noticing! What an awesome adventure you've started out on!XL, JR, and more accessories than anyone would ever need near Olympia, WA

Congratulations on the good news. My wife is a 3 time breast cancer survivor. The last time she chose to have a double mastectomy and reconstruction. Toughest person I know. Anyways she has always joked that "yeah thier store bought, but the real ones kept trying to kill me". Her sense of humor is what got here through it and lots of prayers. We will say a special prayer for you and your family that all goes well in the future, and keep smiling. It really does help!
BTW, good job ont he food too!

Great story with great results on both ends. Helping each other is what it is all about.I always loved a quote by Winston Churchill that states "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give".------------------------------
