The tale of a Powerlifter and his Big Green Egg

Hi everyone.

Like the title says I'm an aspiring powerlifter and an avid egger. To keep my story short suffice it to say that I've been dieting for about a year and a half and have lost about 70 lbs as of today. I'd be lying if I didn't attribute much of my success to the ability to cook a lot of ridiculously good meat on my medium. I diet very strictly so although a lot of what I do wouldn't be ideal for everyone I thought I'd share with you what types of meats I cook to help keep my sanity on such a long diet.

If you want to know more about my journey just ask as I've documented it pretty thoroughly just like we love to document our cooks!

I want to help you achieve your goals while still being able to eat really good food.

So without further ado here are some of my go to cooks.

No seasoned chicken breast direct 350 deg_F

No seasoned 90/10 ground beef with eggs seared and a pot o' veggies.

Stuffed ezekiel bread french toast.

Topped with non fat greek yogurt, peanut butter, kashi go lean cinnamon crunch cereal and berries! I plan on making a french toast casserole in the big green egg with the same ingredients once I buy a cast iron deal.

Dizzy Pig 0 calorie ish rubs (I've used Fajita-ish and Bayou-ish) Pork loin direct at 350 deg_F

I'm glad Dizzy Pig just came out with these calorie free rubs as I love them!! I'm not a big fan of a lot of sodium on my food as it causes larger water weight swings. But since this is only on the outside of the whole loin it hasn't seemed to be an issue for me. Might make me retain more water if I was coating smaller pieces of chicken or throwing it on burgers not sure.

Anyways, you can follow me on instagram if you'd like or you can check out my journal on the lifting community I'm at. (mods if you don't want these links please remove).

So that's that, hopefully I'm not wasting anyone's time.

70lb is a lot of weight. That's a success story. Good job! I also lost 55 lb in the past year and try to get to the gym as much as possible. I could use a good nutrition/gym plan

Thanks man! I started about 235 lbs February of last year and weighed in at 165.6 yesterday morning!

In regards to nutrition and the gym I think the best way for people who just simply want to lose a little weight is to lift heavy stuff. I'll be happy to let you know I've done virtually 0 cardio over my extensive cut, ick I hate running. Lifting weights is IMO the best way to lose the pounds, combine that with moving to eating quality food and you got a really simple plan.

Here's a lifting program that is very simple, can be only 3-4 times a week, and will work!

Start with small adjustments in your lifestyle and you'll see results.

    Haha thanks!

Once I'm off this Keto diet I'll have some more ideas to play with on the egg.

More power to ya, I just don't have that kind of willpower when it comes to eating flavorful food.  No seasoned chicken breast depresses me.  Congrats on the weight loss.

I definitely agree but when mixed with my "slop" of tomatoes, onions, sweet potatoes, spinach, EVOO, red pepper flakes, and cayenne pepper I really enjoy it. It helped that the egg makes some ridiculously juicy chicken.

Well the slop does sound pretty tasty so maybe life isn't so bad for you!!  Agreed on the egg, when the humble skinless chicken breast can be made good you know you've found a winner.
