It s amazing hearing all the ways people find their way to the egg. Ultimately it is because they want a better way to cook and as blind aptly and very succinctly put it you all have wanted to be more engaged with your cooking experience. That is the same reason i am here as well.

My dad got an egg that was broken and for whatever reason he wanted one.  I always cooked on webers until that point and never really enjoyed it.  He came home with a BGE and I cooked on it a couple times and it was good but meh nothing special.  Then I started researching and learning...One day I got a wild hair never smoked anything in my life ever...I put a 20 LB turkey in some brine with some lemons, oranges, and other spices and the next day I was determined.  I woke up at 7 got the egg going and at 8:30 the massive beast was on I smoked the SH*T outta that turkey and when we cut it open at dinner time and juices flowed out of it like I've never seen before and the flavor was mind blowing I knew at that moment I would never cook on anything again...My dad bought me an egg for my xmas present the following year, and in May I bought my XL sold my weber my gas grill and said eff off any other grills...

John, i completely understand, im nervous as heck i will never use it.

Ask questions, ask questions, ask questions!!! The more you ask the easier the egg becomes. I can't tell you how many people sell their egg because they don't take the time to understand how they work and or realize how versatile they can be. I haven't had a functioning oven for the last 3 years. It's a $20 replacement part fix. I haven't even bothered since the egg is basically an oven with the same if not better results. Follow threads here and over on the Greeneggers website. You will never stop learning and picking up tricks along the way. The egg is one of the best tools you can own. Take the time to learn and experiment with it. It becomes a very expensive grill if it sits around.
