Thermapen vrs BGE Instant Read Digital Thermometer

WAR

I'm not getting my 1st Egg until Wednesday, but have enjoyed reading the forums very much. Everyone posts about their success using the Thermapens. Is that better / worse than the BGE Instant Read Digital Thermometer? Thanks!

I would personally choose the Thermapen over the BGE.Thermapen specializes in these instruments."You can live in any city in America, but New Orleans is the only city that lives in you."Chris Rose

+1 on Thermapen. The BGE is an OEM of the Maverick instant read. Compare specifications.They/Them

I have both, and there is no comparison in a pinch. The Thermapen is "instant". The BGE one takes up to 10 seconds. It may not seem like a long time, but it matters when you have a grill full of pork chops and you are nearing your temp. If you have to wait 10 seconds to get an accurate read on each chop you could easily overshoot your temp.Get a Thermapen!Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

Careful with the Thermopen, It's like the EGG, once you buy one you'll get another and another and...And they say Crack is addictive.Sudbury, Ontario

Thanks for all of the quick responses. That answers THAT question! I'm sure I'll have many more.

The only bge item aside from the egg that I recommend is the platesetter.

Just my 2 cents, get the back lit. I would gladly sell you my none back lit for 70.00 just so I could get the back lit for me. And yes you neeeeed one of these!

@WAR checkout the ThermoWorks website. I was too cheap to get the Thermapen, so I got the slightly slower ThermoPop. It's a couple seconds slower. But then again, it only takes a second to singe your arm hair. If money is not the issue, save your hair and go with the Thermapen. Here's a link to their site.

Just ordered my backlit Themapen. I want to get whatever it takes to grill great tasting food! BYS1981 - I ordered a platesetter. My dealer said it was a "must have" as well.

I didn't get a backlit one. That is my only regret.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

Before my Egg and my Thermapen I cooked until it "looked done" whatever that meant.
Getting the Egg and the Thermapen and actually cooking to the proper internal temp has turned my backyard grilling from "it's ok" to "it's great".Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's -
