Large Egg Dome Allignment

My buddy has a large egg. He has tried several times to get his dome aligned correctly. He has tightened it until the bolts are bent and has even tightened while the egg was warm. It works great when the egg is cool but the moment he gets it hot the dome slides down in the bands. This causes the back of the dome to rub on the back of the egg. It destoyed his factory gasket and now is rubbing on the Rutland. I have an XL so the adjustments are different. Any thoughts?

I'd loosen up all the hinge hardware, get it where you want it and tighten it all up again. There's a good amount of play in that the holes are larger than the bolts.  Also check to make sure everything is straight and not bent or torqued.

  • Also has he used the white plastic retaining bar things when he was taking on and off the bands or some other method? Supposedly those are meant to keep the bands at the perfect seperation height.

Really not that big a deal. If it will open and close it will cook.
