Napolitano Pizza...in Naples
My first authentic Napolitano pizza, from Sorbillo in Naples. Amazing. Man my BGE pizzas have a long way to go...
I noticed a few interesting techniques: the Margharita pizza had a fair amount of EVOO, but it was added after the sauce and cheese, not on the dough.
Very sparing use of basil (on pizza and other dishes that here in the U.S. I see made with way more basil)
The guy did a final stretch of the dough after it was fully assembled, right before it went on the peel; it appreciably increased the size and rounded out the shape.
Cook time was maybe 90 seconds. Our table ordered five pizzas and we were served in maybe seven minutes or so.
Pizzas were about $5 EUR which struck me as a bargain.
Fun experience.

When we lived in Naples the trattorias in the neighborhood made pizzas the same way. Fresh mozzarella d' buffalla and San Marzanno tomatoes are unlike anything you can get in the States. Neapolitan pizza is the best i've ever had!Hood Stars, Wrist Crowns and Obsession Dobs!

Going to go ahead and hijack this thread. Starting to plan a Europe vacation for next year - never been before. If we plan on staying in Italy for 4-6 days, where should we stay and how is an easy/affordable way to get around to different parts of the country (Venice, Rome, Florence)?Oh yeah, pizza looks awesome.

I have to get there in a few years and visit some relatives. Nice looking pizza's at a good price. For now I'll just have to cook mine in the BGE....Enjoy!

Train system in Europe is the way to go- very easy to get from place to place and reasonable. Italy isn't my favorite country to drive in though- my personal preference is to spend more time in less cities as I find a new city each day or so to be draining. Regardless you will have a great time- food in Italy can't be beat. Even low end restaurants will be some of the best food you have had.Greensboro, NC

@kbutler84 the most expensive part of an Italy trip is the rental car. If you stick to the metropolitan areas, there's no need, but a car gives you access to some of the best spots, e.g. the Tuscan hill towns. My main recommendation is to pick ONE region and explore it thoroughly. To try to see Italy as a whole in a week would be frustrating. One year we went to Campania, the next Florence followed by Liguria, the next Tuscany.Kemah, TX
