Droopy lid gasket ;(

I just purchased my large egg less than six months ago. Everything has been wonderful until last night's first pizza cook. Initially I didn't put in enough lump to get the 500-550 temp I wanted for the cook and half to take out all the innards to add more lump. After adding more fuel, the temp rose to 550, and I stabilized it there. Set up was raised indirect with a grate on top of the standard 18" grate with 3 pieces of ceramic to raise the top grate about 2"above felt level. Pizza stone was placed on that grid. Pizza was placed the egg and cooked the appropriate time. Lo and behold, when lid was lifted to remove the pizza, the top gasket was drooping down on the left side. I assume the adhesive failed/melted during the cook. Used spatula to attach the gasket, and it seems to be holding. Am hoping the top and bottom are sealed for continued use. After this long-winded account , my real concern is that is this an issue that my retailer should give me a new top gasket fee gratis after I go relate this issue to him? I feel he should , but I'm not positive. By the way, the margarheta pizza was wonderful! Thanks for any info. I'm going to relate this event to the dealer tomorrow.

Can't hurt to ask for a free replacement. If one is not given and you want to replace it, you should contact @RRP about the rutland.

FWIW, my (original felt) gasket has been mostly fried for over 6 months. I don't have any real problem with smoke leakage so I haven't bothered to replace it yet.

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.

Not sure, but I don't think gaskets are warranted. Probably because most of them fail soon. That said, I think most dealers will give you a new one, perhaps even Nomex. That's what mine did. Still have it in the bag it came in. :)

Best bet is to just clean off the old one and replace it with a Rutland gasket and some Permatex Ultracopper. You'll likely never have to replace it again.

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

The gasket warranty is either a year or three years. Not quite sure which one it is but I know it has a warranty.
