Injecting Butt with Scotch?

photolew
photolew Posts: 12
The last two butt's I've smoked I injected them with maple syrup which added a nice flavor.  Im a big fan of smokey Scotch's and I was thinking it might be interesting  to inject a combo of maple syrup and scotch.    I don't like to reinvent the wheel, so just curious about any feedback, pros or cons on that?

I have used a combination of maple and bourbon before, but have not tried scotch for cooking.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

Never heard of that being done, but that certainly doesn't mean it hasn't. Waste of a perfectly good butt, IMO.

Way back when, the very first time I ever got drunk, it was on straight Scotch. To this day, I won't touch the stuff!
    :))

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

My first time was Southern Comfort. Took me years to touch it again.

Long story, but as part of my new job in public accouting right out of college I was assigned a task that took me throughout a PBR brewery from the granary to the finished production line. I was eager to see the process, but by the end of the day after the sights and smells I swear I did not touch a beer for nearly a year afterward! I guess it's like sausage making from the squeal coming in one end of the plant to the output on the other end, there are just some things you just don't need to know nor see!

For the love of jeebus, please don't do that if it's good scotch. It's much better for marinating the cook.

I think that is an Eggcellent idea!  Go for it!  I have used scotch before in marinades which turned out great.  :)

Man, now I want a Scotch injection. However I'm out of Scotch and liquor stores are closed on Sundays in PA.

Boy - now you have got me thinking...I love a "rusty nail" which is scotch and drambui. The two work together beautifully taking the harshness out of scotch and the sweet out of the drambui. I bet a rusty nail injection in say an otherwise mild pork loin could be very tasty! New thing on my to do list!

The Liquor store in Lemoyne, PA is open Sundays from noon til 5. I was there this afternoon. It's the only store in our area open Sunday.

Went out for pizza in Allentown once upon a time. They GAVE us one beer, but wouldn't sell us more. Said if we wanted more, we would have to go to a beer store down the road. So we did and brought a case back to the pizza joint. Weirdest thing I ever saw!

And I thought CT liquor laws were weird!

I heard they were starting to have the stores near the borders open on Sundays to prevent revenue loss from those driving across the border. Didn't realize Lemoyne was considered a border town.

I live in a 'dry' town in PA.  No beer, wine or liquor in any restaurant except BYOB.  Fortunately, I'm on the edge of town, and there is a great sports bar 2 blocks away, in the next township.  And the liquor store is about a mile and a half away in another town.

I love pork and I love a good Islay Scotch. One is meant for the smoker and the other to be enjoyed neat while monitoring your thermometer and watching the smoke rise. I wouldn't risk it, too much at stake LOL

I would if its not the good expensive stuff, like 15 years old or more. To me that's a waste and i would rather drink it then try something that may or may not taste good. I put some cheep whiskey in the last pot of baked beans i smoked for memorial day. They were fantastic. I used cherry wood for the smoke and caught the drippings from the sausage i was smoking.
