So California Eggers...what lump do you use???

Reading a thread below made me wonder...what brands of lump are Eggers in Southern California using? I understand California regulations make it difficult for manufacturers to sell lump in California, but we really seem limited to other parts of the country. I use to use Wicked Good Weekend Warrior, but haven't seen it since ACE stopped carrying it. I've tried Frontier, Cowboy, Best of the West. So far, Royal Oak seems to be a cut above the others, is reasonably priced, and is readily available. Does anyone else have other suggestions?

Ask your ace to ship a bag of kamado Joe lump. Very comparable to WGWW, my ace also stopped carrying WGWW and began caring KJ instead.
-
I'm in the Bay Area, but you should still be able to get KJ lump.

Royal Oak from Walmart.

I haven't seen KJ at the local ACE. I'll see if I can order it.
Thanks!

Osh sometimes has Best of the West but only in small bags, other then that just RO at Walmart is all I have been able to findHermosa Beach CA

You can buy 40lb bags of best of the west at Smart and Final for 15 bucks and now Stater bros is carrying it for the same price.

Restaurant Depot had the big bags of Royal Oak for something like $10.xx/bag. That's the only place I get my lump from. Last time I was there I bought 6 bags.I guess since I haven't tried anything else besides RO or the BGE brand, I don't see the need to change. If I run out and can't find any RO, I guess I'll have to try something else, but I doubt I'll let myself get to that point.

I only use RO since that pretty much all I can find. I did see FoGo lump at Bevmo the other day, but don't know if its worth switching.Brewer, BBQer, Softballer, RCer, Father, HomeTheaterer, and trouble maker.Orange, CA

I was using WGWW until Ace stopped carrying it as well. Home Depot now carries the 17.6 lb. bags of Royal Oak. It's OK, just doesn't last as long as WGWW.

Thanks Brewn...I'm next to a BevMo, but have not noticed lump. I may pull the trigger if they have FoGo.

Wow - Fogo at Bevmo. I'll check that out. Fogo is excellent. Amazon has it in 35lb bags - free shipping with Prime. They arrive in great condition. Unfortunately, they've been trading at $45/bag. The price fluctuates wildly - my last purchase a couple weeks ago was at $28. Also check out home Depot for 17 lb bags of RO at @$13. Fogo is definitely a cut above RO for several reasons. Some folks don't like the really large chunks - requires a little breaking up sometimes.Santa Paula, CA

BevMo has Fogo? That's news to me. I've been buying RO at Home Depot. Sometimes I'll order OO from Firecraft ($100 or more is free shipping).Southern California

Why can't Rockwood, a mighty fine lump, be sold in or shipped to California?Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

I spoke with Stlcharcoal about the possibility of getting Rockwood in California. He said he was unable to ship due to California State Proposition 65 regulations. That seems to be a deterrent for others as well. Too bad...Large BGE, Medium BGE, Kamado Joe Jr, 36" Blackstone Griddle Blackstone Tailgater and Roccbox owner/operator from Los Angeles

I don't blame @stlcharcoal for not bringing Rockwood to CA. Proposition 65's effectiveness also remains controversial as recent analysis of cancer rates in California showed no change. Now who wants to go in on a Coyote and get some smuggled into CA LOL!Hermosa Beach CA

I'm all in McStew! LOL!!!
No complaints at all with stlcharcoal! He's taken care of me on other issues. I highly recommend his company! Just wish I could get me some Rockwood!

I feel bad for you guys in California. Too much government regulation for me.Louisville, GA - 2 Large BGE's

Proposition 65 doesn't ban charcoal. It's still sold in CA. I think it's a labeling issue.

You're right Nola. But the labeling issue is a costly issue from what I'm lead to believe.

Ironically, activated charcoal (that just means its porous) is an antidote for poisoning.

I'm in SF bay area and it's the same story pretty much. Lowe's has Frontier, Home Depot for Royal Oak, and the Ace's have Cowboy. More variety at BBQ specialty stores but price goes up a lot too.

My bad guys its not FoGo lump at Bevmo. They sell Lazzari lump. http://www.bevmo.com/Shop/ProductDetail.aspx/More/Outdoors/Lazzari-Fuel-Company/Lazzari-Natural-Mesquite-Charcoal-40-lb/2074Brewer, BBQer, Softballer, RCer, Father, HomeTheaterer, and trouble maker.Orange, CA

I spoke with stlcharcoal about the regulations issue. It comes down to packaging. Of course, charcoal is legal here, but companies are required to put warnings on the label so the consumer is aware of carbon monoxide and its ill health effects. I can't blame any company for being disinclined to adorn their product with a label suggesting using it might be harmful.Southern California
