What would you do with it?

A year or so ago, dad and I tore out the old dishwasher at the church.  Old stainless steel beast with dome cover and rubber covered trays that you stacked and ran.  Two of these were in there as well.  Found them this afternoon out at our farm building and started to wonder...  Brought it home, and low an behold, it fits in the LG egg.

Measures 16-3/4" on the inside and 5-1/2" tall.

Was thinking about getting a couple of pieces of steel rod to run across and make a homemade AR with it.  Possibly get a Med grid to use inside, or maybe cut up some expanded metal to fit inside.

Any suggestions, thoughts, ideas?

Have  access to a welder? you could construct an AR if you cut out the front brace pieces so you can slide a grid in. Then weld a few supports in  it to hold the grid.

Got a pic of it with the PS in?  If it'll close, you COULD break the record for pork butt weight in one cook in that thing...

Going to see what happens with the plate setter tonight.  It was later than I really wanted to play around with it last night.

Not so sure I want to cut it up.  I was thinking about taking the top ring off, leaving a couple of the support loops for spots to hook to lift it out. That would bring my grid down to around felt level.  But what if I want to cook above felt?  I see your point @tjosborne, but I'm just not sure I want to cut it.

Platesettter in and the rack flipped.  Yes the dome will close this way.

Flipped the rack over.  Have to do a bit of a balance act on the PS.  Would have to cut out three of the verticals to get it to set on the bottom ring.  Dome will close.

At a guess, I would say about an inch over the felt line.  I'm thinking I can live with that.

Does the lid shut when you have the platesetter in?

Made a couple of mods to the rack this weekend.  Sawzall took care of 4 of the vertical supports on the bottom.  So now the rack will sit down on the PS and not have to be a balancing act.

Thought I would try it out for a raised direct as I don't have the cross supports made up and a grid to fit down inside yet.
