I ordered the ET-733 last weekend so i could use it over the holiday w/e. I got it and tested it out friday night on a reverse sear steak cook - with success. I used it again for a low and slow butt on sunday morning. It worked fine all night then the next morning after the sun got going the base unit faded out and stopped working. The receiver notified me as it had lost connection. I brought the base in the house and after 20 minutes it came back on. Took it back out to the cooker and set it up again. After 10 mins it conked out again.

I did a test again this morning and took pics. When it in direct sun by the cooker it doesnt work. If i leave it in the house it worked fine. I packed it back in the box to return to Amazon.

Do you all think the heat causes the screen to fade?

  • I ordered one as well and couldn't get it to work at all. I put it away thinking I was whipped after working all day and then trying to set it up quick. I got the two units to connect but I couldn't get it to switch from food to BBQ etc. The directions were kind of hard to understand. I plan on looking at it again when I get a second. Kind of annoying...

Did you try new batteries?  The batteries that came with mine were almost-dead heavy duty (not alkaline).

Mine lives outside next to the egg and takes a beating from the sun/weather everyday and I've never had a problem with the screen not working.

@noloegghead - i did swap the batteries and it was extremely annoying. I am just going to sent it back and try another. I liked not worrying about going out to check on the temps.

Sucks to have to send it back.

Sounds like you just got one built on a Monday. Give it another shot
