For those who use a table cover with the SS cap, I've started putting a piece of duct tape on securing the top of cap to its base, egg cold before covering btw. Prior to that, when I pulled off the big cover, the top of cap would pull off with my cover - klang ..onto the concrete patio. Now I can grab the cover and remove it like Kreskin!

I suppose if I ever break my ceramic cap, I'll need something to snuff the fire. DFMT would probably be good enough though. Or a scrap of plywood. :) As for a DFMT replacement, I only use that 2-3 times a year and probably don't need it then! Mostly wide open up top.

I have the cheapo hardware store rain cap. Never use it. And anyway, I have gotten to the point where I refuse to grill in the rain. It's too WET! But if I get caught in a storm, I have the vent cap. I think it was $6.

I do like the look of the Smokeware cap. Until it gets all crud encrusted... like Ron's.
    :))

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I just picked up a Smokeware cap last week too. Does look good. Haven't used it for a high temp cook yet but it worked good for a low n slow.

If I am doing a high temperature cook then I just remove the SmokeWare dome cap and regulate my temperature from the bottom! Otherwise the most I have been able to get my large to hit with the SmokeWare cap on in its wide open position has been 455.

You mean the very top cap itself goes flying or the whole SmokeWare itself? With the gasket on the inside of my Smokeware and not on the egg I would have to really work hard to remove it as it is a snug fit. Or maybe you are "strong like bull" LOL

The very top (dome cap) is what flys off, the base stays secured. I did not read enough to attach the gasket seal to the SS lower, I placed the gasket on the egg itself. The bottom section is therefore stuck very securely. No Dimitry, I am just full of bull.
