Greetings-

So after 4 months of lurking and reading and planning, I have built my table and purchased my egg. Big thanks to Dakine Egger for posting their pictures and description of their table, my design is very close the theirs. I created a hybrid of their plans, Naked Whiz, and BGE website. The visible wood is all Cedar with 4 x 4's as the legs and 2 x 6's everywhere else. The underside of the lower shelf is pressure treated 2 x 4's. There are two pieces of granite, 18" x 18" below the egg and a 18" x 21" piece in the top shelf as a prep area. Total length is 58" and height is 33 1/4". This is by far the most ambitious project I have ever undertaken and I am pleased with the results. Let me know if you want to see the plans as a Sketchup document. Thanks to all for their suggestions and wisdom, have really enjoyed building & cooking!

The frame of the table:

Table with the shelves and the Egg hole cut out. Cutting the hole was the scariest part of the whole process...

Looks great. What would you estimate it cost you in materials? How long to make?

    Hi-

Thanks for the compliments! I would say I was about $300-350 in materials, the construction took:
1 day to make the frame (had a friend who is a set builder help that day)
1 day per shelf to cut and mount the wood
1 day per coat of polyurethane/sanding; 3 coats totale
1 day to install and set the Egg up

The granite took a week to get cut and delivered but since it was such a small order I can't complain.

Thanks again for looking, let me know if you need more information.

    Cheers!

Your going to be causing traffic accidents with it being that close to the road if the smell of a good cook drifts out there. Nice table!

Was the cedar pretty rough to start and then needed to be sanded? Or is there a certain type or grade of cedar to ask for at the lumber yard?

That is a task for this summer. Now that I have finished grading finals it has moved closer to the top of my list.

I used planed cedar from Lowe's that was just there. I was fairly particular on making sure nothing was warped and had interesting knot holes for when I sealed it. I used an electric hand sander to sand it down before sealing with polyurethane and also between each coat.

Thanks for asking, hope you have a great summer!

    Cheers!
