Headed out soon to pickup/purchase an XL! Curious on what everyone would recommend for must have accessories. I'm not sure what the store has in stock, but any thoughts on the following: Nest Handler Plate Setter Pizza Stone Peel AR Half Moon Anything else I may be overlooking? Thanks for your time, Skip

When i got mine i bought a plate setter and a woo (to do raised grid).   Wish I had know at the time about the AR from the ceramic grill store.  I broke down earlier this week and bought one- will figure out what to do with the plate setter and woo :).  I woudl also make sure you have a thermapen or equivalent-

I love my plate setter. I do mostly low and slows. Also thinking about a Half Moon.

I love my half moon with raised grid. Perfect direct and indirect at same time.

Appreciate the feedback. Went with the L instead of the XL, just didn't see myself needing that much space for my family's needs. Knowing I'll probably plan on getting another in the future, I've decided on the small/large combo.

  • An expensive accessory, but makes the egg so easy for low and slow is the DIGIQ.

I agree, I have read a lot on these mad they seem great. My plan is to learn without the auto features and then upgrade sow time this summer to the DigiQ.

Definitely something to deflect the heat......plate setter or something from Ceramic Grill Store.

I would replace that cast iron lower fire grate with a 22.5" Weber cooking grate from Home Depot ($9).

Then get yourself a temp controller, Thermapen, and remote thermometer.  If you need any help in choosing a temp controller, just send me an email--they're all great, just some are better than others depending on how you plan to use it.

If I did it again eith my xl I would get the woo 2 and a deflector. Instead of the plate setter. I use some homemade risers for raised direct. I cook taised direct all the time.

    RedSkip Here's your must haves:

    1. A dead animal

    2. Lump charcoal and some way to get it started.

    3. Something to keep you hydrated (preferably an adult beverage).

The rest will come to you.

@GATABITES‌ generally I cook for 3-4 people. @grege345‌ I'm a little embarrassed to say I ordered it and didn't bring it home. I was told by the staff that it was "heavy" and I didn't second guess it. Afterwards, I watched a few videos on how to assemble once I got home. Granted I didn't have anyone to help me at the house, but I still should have tried...felling pretty dumb.
