Argentinian Beef

So I am heading to Argentina for a couple of weeks and don't speak a lick of Spanish.   However, I do know that I will be trying to eat my body weight in steak while I am there.  Anybody have any recommendations for places to eat in Buenos Aires or local dishes?

Also, given how different steak cuts are named just around North America I am having a hard time getting the Spanish (specifically Argentinian) names for when I order.  Anybody know what I would call Ribeye, Striploin or Top Sirloin?

It has been a number of years, but I will never forget this place. Central Buenos Aires. http://www.asadorlaestancia.com.ar/ I never figured out the cuts of meat, but it didn't seem to matter. It was all good. I do remember the Bife de Lomo. Seemed to be similar to a tenderloin? Expect to eat dinner around 10 pm.

Man! You are going to have a great time!

I highly recommend you try a NY Steak with a peppercorn sauce which is called:
"Bife de Chorizo a la pimenta". The Bife De Chorizo is the NY cut, a la pimienta  is the peppercorn sauce.

If you have a sweet-tooth definitely try some Alfajores.

I recommend you do a City Tour with a private guide that can show you the best attractions in Town. Naturally you will want to have a Parilla experience, go to Cabana Las Lilas for that.

If you like wine order a Malbec when you have those steaks. Wine is reasonably priced unlike here. The exchange rate is definitely in your favor. If you like beer, Quilmes is great.

A word of warning, Buenos Aires has become particularly more dangerous over the years, travel safe and take extra precaution at nights.

    Enjoy your trip!

Wow, this is all great information guys, exactly what I was looking for.  Bife de Chorizo will go in that special place in my brain reserved for "dos cervezas, por favor"!

my favorite cut by far was the asado de tira del centro. order it "jugoso" aka medium rare.

  • Been a while since I've been to S.America but, I believe dinner time in Argentina is quite a bit later than we are generally accustomed to here. Seems like anything before 8:00 or 9:00 is considered early.

Well, "spa-Peggy" is kind of like spaghetti. I'm not sure what Peggy does different, if anything. But it's the one dish she's kind of made her own.
