Adjustable Rig (AR) R&B Oval Vs. Customer Combo - Heat Dispersion

There is an obvious difference in the shape of these two. I hope a few of you have experienced both.
Is there any noticeable characteristics about the heat dispersion between the two different rigs. It seems like the combo would give the meat a 360 degree cook and the oval would focus on the sides of the meat.
Maybe I'm crazy but I just want to know the best rig to buy. I will be ordering this weekend.
MN. LBGE. Vikings. Beer. YETI 75.

Without a doubt, buy the oval. I use it for brisket at ribs all the time. Eventually, you can acquire and round stone and have both. I use my round stone for most other indirect applications.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

So? Ultimately you can use a 13" stone on the oval setup????cazzy said:Without a doubt, buy the oval. I use it for brisket at ribs all the time. Eventually, you can acquire and round stone and have both. I use my round stone for most other indirect applications.MN. LBGE. Vikings. Beer. YETI 75.

Yeah, the rig is the exact same. The combos just have different stones or grids. I've never seen a oval stone anywhere but CGS...but you can get round stones anywhere. I do recommend CGS stones though, Tom has done a lot of research and he sells very high quality stones.

I use a three level set-up for brisket:pantsypants said:@cazzy what's your set up for brisket using the AR ?bottom level: oval stonemid level: oval foil ringtop level: stock grid on top of rigJust a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
Do you have the spider ? I am just wondering if you put it legs up or down (for a brisket) I don't have the oval stone but I am sure it will be fineToronto

Is the extender a must have or do some have no extender just use stock grid on top?

I have a spider...but don't use it for brisket cooks. Just woking and whenever I want to sear right on the lump.pantsypants said:Do you have the spider ? I am just wondering if you put it legs up or down (for a brisket)

I use the stock grid as I don't really do multilevel egging. I use the levels more for set ups. If you wanted to do multiple racks of ribs or a brisket and a but, you would need the extender as there isn't enough room from the top level and the top of the rigSkinnyV said:Is the extender a must have or do some have no extender just use stock grid on top?
I used my extender for the first time to cook sausage while it was hanging. Will never do sausage another way.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
Don't see the point.pantsypants said:Why wouldn't you put the oval on the spider ??

I place the stone the same place it is in the pic. I put the oval foil ring were the grid is and I place the stock grid on the top of the rig.Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ.... -
What would you recommend if I don't have an oval stoneToronto
-
Just use a regular one. It's still inderect, you'll just lack the protection that the oval stone provides for long cuts of meat.pantsypants said:What would you recommend if I don't have an oval stone

Thanks . Does it matter If I put the legs up or down ??Toronto

What do you have? If you're talking about the spider...I'd imagine you'd want it higher. For the plate setter, I think it's legs up so you can use a drip pan.pantsypants said:Thanks .

Do you have cross bars?Just a hack that makes some $hitty BBQ....

You should be able to put the round stone on a set of cross bars and leave your spider out of the mix. Now if you want to cook on two tiers the spider (legs up) gives you more cooking space but reduces space for lump.
