Here's a question

So... You finish cooking whatever,,,, and you close the lower vent and put cap on top.  How long does it take for the fire to go out.  I know the egg stays hot for hours, but how soon could you open the lid and let it cool, just in case you did a cook and want it ready in a couple hours for another cook - and cooled down before starting.  Has anyone ever checked this?

If I was cooking again in a couple of hours I'd dial back to 200 and crank it back up.

Indeed, you can always add some more lump.  If you use flame to start your fire, it is a **** to restart hot lump.  Don't know if it is O2 deprived or gassy, but a match will not stay lit to start a cube if you are trying a restart on a hot load of lump.

  • +1 on just dialing it back and then opening back up to whatever temp for the second cook.

+2  Lump is cheap.  Just throttle it down and let it burn.
