My little buddy has a faulty hip. He's not even a year old and he already has a limp. Vet took an X-ray and its clear that its not normal. So I was wondering if anybody here has gone thru with this?imageimage

I did it with my old buddy. Didn't take but he was a bit older. It was over 4K. I would talk to the vet about the odds of it taking. Sorry

He said there is a95% success rate. However the recover time is like 2 months. Not to mention I don't have a house that would be good for recovery. Wood floors, stairs etc. he also mentioned the price tag of about 4k. I'd pay it without hesitation

I wish you the best of luck. He is young so go for it. The second try at the operation was the hardest decision I ever made.

I say go for it. My 7 years old dog has a renal failure starting at 5. It had meant special dog food, medication and every six month for kidney cleaning. Around 300 a month average. She's the most loyal dog. I wouldn't put her down. She teaches my family what loyality is all about.

Which procedure are they recommending? One hip or both?

one hip. Where the ball meets the socket is where the problem is. The socket doesn't form a full C around the ball. I'm just worried about the recovery.

My one year old Golden had a double (both hips) TPO. It is tough on the dog and takes an owner who will baby them for several weeks....the need to be crated, only going out on leash to go to the bathroom. However, the recovery can be complete and dogs can generally have a full, pain free life. I don't regret our decision to do it at all; tough at the time and expensive but our dog is nor five and continues to live a good life. I recommend using a specialist that does these procedures regularly. Also ask which procedure they will use and pros/cons of the options...
