This was really good! Shishito Peppers, Japanese Rolled Scallion Beef, Yukari Shiso Yaki Onigiri

I've been on a Japanese kick lately and really enjoying the recipes from The Japanese Grill. Today I went to Asahi Imports in Austin (good store) to get some additional ingredients.
I had read about Shishito peppers but never tried them; they were great...sweet, rich flavor, just a tiny bit of heat. Skewered and brushed with a soy sauce and sake mixture, cooked about 4-5 minutes raised direct until the peppers started to blister.
Picked up thin sliced beef; at the Japanese market; expensive per ounce, but razor thin and good quality meat. Laid it out on wax paper, put scallions on top, rolled up and secured with toothpicks. Cooked raised direct over high heat turning every minute and basting with a mixture of mirin, soy and same. Total cook time was about six minutes.
Did three versions of Yaki Onigiri; preferred the ones with soy, but the one with soy and Yukari Shiso was probably my favorite.

Beautiful! That is wonderful looking cook. This is now on my list "to do." We call those garlic chives over this way. I put a few plants in my garden years ago and now they come up all over the place. Great flavor. I am going to order that book also.
