Parts with M.C. Mex vs BGE inscription?

Because of a broken firering I've received a new one under warranty. My BGE large is almost 2 years old and now I had 2 firerings next to each other, I saw some differences. Of course the new one has the spares for the plate setter, my old one didn't. But the biggest difference was in my opinion the thickness and quality (smooth sides and edges vs. more rough edges). My old firering had the inscription M.C. Mex, while the new firering has Big Green Egg inscription and seems to be thicker and with better quality.

Is this an update or have I received an inferior product the first time although I bought it as a BGE?

I suspect they just decided to improve on the design with the most recent ring.  Perhaps they made it thicker due to the fact that the plate setter notches might make it more prone to crack.  Or, they simply had too many warranty replacements.

I suspect the "Big Green Egg" inscription is just something they decided to due for more brand recognition.  I think most of the manufacturing is still done in Mexico.

So...I don't think you got a knock off or anything the first time, they have just made the latest version better.  I wish mine would crack...I want the one with the notches.

Which came first the chicken or the egg?  I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.
