fletcherfam said:Got a new job! Pay is less, however, I am currently working 50-55 hours a week with an hour and a half commute each way. I am salary so I don't get overtime and I have a mandatory 50 hour work week (even if I am just sitting only thumbs). New job is hourly and will be 40 hours each week, no weekends, no long days, 2 weeks more of time each year. I have come to realize that I can always make more money, but I can never get back the time with my children. Will have to get creative with egging to save some costs. Peace out, JT
Indeed! Great post. (No teenagers, huh? J/K)When I'm not Eggin', I'm scootin' Eggin' and 'cueing from Temecula Ca; an hour from San Diego, an hour and five minutes from Palm Springs, and an hour and a half from Los Angeles (yeah, right. With THAT traffic?) -
Having the time to get involved with kid sports brought me much closer to my kids, especially my daughter. The time is worth it. You'll probably feel less stress at work compared to being at a place with mandatory uncompensated OT. Overall quanlity of life improves.
As pointed out, your disposable income drop will be less than it seems. First, that extra income was subject to income taxes and FICA, so 35% or more went to the Govt off the top. Next your gasoline costs and car maintenance costs should decrease significantly if your commute is much shorter. A little scrimping the first year and then the pain will ease as you get raises or maybe a promotion.

You will adjust to your new circumstances. I would have made the same move. I would choose happiness over money anytime.

Congratulations @fletcherfam ! You made the right call. You can perfect gourmet burgers until the budget allows for prime rib again. The good news is you will have so much more time to enjoy life with those closest to you.I'm 41 and just had my firstborn a week ago. I also have two wonderful step kids and a terrific wife. I have no work-life balance as I am a sales rep so I'm always on the clock so to speak. I got a work phone call at 6:30 PM on New Year's Eve for gosh sakes! I need to start working in your direction...L x2, M, S, Mini and a Blackstone 36. She says I have enough now....eggAddict from MN!
