Hellpppppppp. Christmas meal in jeopardy

The gasket is frozen, I can't open the lid. Any ideas on how to thaw and open? Christmas meal in jeopardy.

Start a little fire through the vent...Paper towel soaked in cooking oil or a cube starter.

Oh...heat gun would work.

Open the bottom vent and get a little newspaper burning in their or a starter cube and see if you can get a piece of lump going. Alternatively you could take a heat gun and run it in the bottom vent for a bit or work your way around the circumference at the gasket line.

Open up the lower grate and light some lump. That should thaw it.

@garykmo-once you get the dome open, when you next shutdown the BGE put strips of aluminum foil on the lower gasket (for most of the circumference) before shutting the dome.  Opens with no issues.  Good luck and Merry Christmas!

Thanks for all the help! Not open yet but very grateful for the out of the box thinking. Now we'll just eat later, but the family is used to that.

Combination of fire in the lower vent and wifey's hair dryer around gasket works pretty quick.
